The Rotary Club of Campbellford was pleased to help run the Inter-Rotary Spelling Bee at Hillcrest Public School on April 6th, 2018. We 16 excellent competitors in the Junior Division (Grades 4,5 & 6). The competitors showcased their prowess and in the end the winner was Meagan Hay, 2nd Place Bryan Cruikshank and 3rd place went to Nathan Bernier.
The intermediate division had a very close competitive competition and the result was
Esmeralda Wang-Acker placed 1st, Madison Hobbs was 2nd and Jaelyn Mitchell placed 3rd.
This was the 2nd year for Hillcrest competing in the spelling bee and both competitions went
much longer that in 2017. This is a credit to the hard work of the students and the staff at
Hillcrest PS. The winners will compete in the Inter-Rotary Spelling Bee Finals on June 9th
in Belleville.
The top 3 competitors in each division each received gift certificates at Chapters / Indigo.
Hillcrest also was the recipient of cheque for $100 for their school literacy program.
The Rotary Club of Campbellford would like to thank Principal Kevin Coulter, Staff Organizer
Patrick Muldoon and the staff at Hillcrest for their help in hosting this event. As well, the
competitors for their work in getting ready for the bee and the student body of Hillcrest
who politely watched, cheered and support their fellow students.
