Our guest speaker, Glen McMullen of Warsaw, gave a presentation he called: It’s Tough To Be a Bee. The retired teacher and former head of the Ontario Beekeepers’ Association, turned to the Bible and sought out honey references to show how long bees have been important to humans.

Glen said bees are vital to pollinating fruit trees. He explained that Ontario beekeepers take their hives to New Brunswick, Quebec and various parts of Ontario as trees come into bloom. He noted that the province is controlling a nicotine-based pesticide that has been shown to kill bees and said he is confident that beekeepers will continue to develop bees that can survive as conditions change.

Glen finished his talk by urging Rotarians to buy locally produced honey, to let their dandelions grow to provide food and to plant clover in their lawns.
